On September 3rd, 2011, I started my second annual planting festival 😛 I sowed 108 seeds from different kinds of vegetables and herbs such as Tomatoes, Bell-Peppers, Eggplants, Chili Peppers, Basil, Thyme, etc. Anyway here is the update on my Tomato Plants:
Day Zero, I sowed the seeds in this starter-kit that I bought from Ace Hardware. For each square, I put 3-5 seeds. Once, they sprout, I cut off the extra plants so each square can have ONLY one plant.
Between Days 25-35, I transferred the plants into larger biodegradable pots that I also bought from Ace Hardware.
After I transferred them into pots, I started the hardening process. This is when you start to transfer the plants so they can get accustomed to our lovely weather. 😛 It takes about 7-10 days. First you put them under the sun for one hour and then you add another hour until they spent the whole daylight outside. I do it so they don’t get shocked and die.
DAY 49 -UPDATE on my Tomato Plants
I counted my Tomato plants. It turns out I have around 37 plants. 😛 Crazy but fun. Last year, I did 13 but this year, I may have gone a little mad and increased to almost three times more. You can see them in the picture. I put sticks so it can support the Tomato plants. They need support especially when the flowers start to set in. Some of the plants have started to flower. YAY! So it means in 3-4 weeks, I am going to have Tomatoes. By, the way, I don’t like eating Tomatoes, I just like growing them. 😛
